Climate Change

Introduction

Car driving through floodsClimate Change (also known as global warming) is the greatest environmental challenge facing the world today. There is increasing scientific evidence that human actions are changing the global climate through the emission of greenhouse gases, which is imposing significant changes in temperature, rainfall, sea levels and extremes of weather.

Bristol’s Community Strategy (2003) set a target to cut the levels of greenhouse gas emissions in Bristol by 60% by 2050, based on the year 2000 baseline. In September 2004 the Council adopted the Bristol Climate Protection and Sustainable Energy Strategy and signed the Nottingham Declaration on climate change.
