Twinning

Introduction

Bristol has Twinning or Friendship Agreements with the municipalities of the following cities to share international projects and development initiatives.

* Bordeaux in France
* Hannover in Germany
* Oporto in Portugal
* Tbilisi, capital of Georgia
* Puerto Morazan in Nicaragua
* Beira in Mozambique
* Guangzhou in China

We also provide major funding and work closely with Bristol International Twinnings Association.

Twinning in Bristol works as a partnership between Bristol City Council and Bristol International Twinnings Association, and is characterised by a high level of community involvement.

Bristol International Twinnings Association (BITA) is an umbrella group representing and developing the seven voluntary associations or registered charities who manage the community elements. BITA is core funded by Bristol City Council and receives logistical support from the University of the West of England (UWE).

The actual day-to-day work of twinning covers a broad range of initiatives, including economic development, youth and educational links, cultural exchanges, global citizenship and international development programmes.
